State Fair

I love State Fair time! Parking in the dirt and mud parking lot, riding the 2 mph tractor wagon from our car to the entrance, eating corn with butter dripping down my arm, the smell of animals stuck in a building for a week. I was born on a pig farm, you know...this stuff is in my blood :)

Here's a kid's eye view of the biggest ferris wheel. We got paired up with the most redneck couple this side of Arkansas...complete with crooked and missing teeth and overalls. Avery was actually scared, especially when the man kept asking him questions and ending with "Heh, boy?!". Then he said "He must be feared". ?? The best of Kansas comes out to the State Fair...especially on "free day" !

Our absolute favorite thing (still talking about it every day) was the sheep sheering contest. Three men were racing to see who could sheer 4 sheep the fastest. Avery was awestruck and stared for a good 15 minutes until we had to drag him away. I had never seen it before either - the poor sheep was just laying there like a limp noodle and the man would hold his head between his legs, and flip him around like a pancake. It was quite a hilarious site! We learned what wool actually comes from though.

Llama face! Took me back to our vacation in Peru. Don't they have pretty eyes?
